I like my women how I like my men.
That’s the joke.
I am bisexual.
YES ive been waiting my whole life for this question.
ok so dare me is a standalone novel by megan abbott about a cheerleading squad that gets a new coach. it’s about friendship and love and being a teenage girlTM and mystery and jealousy and it’s so beautiful. i don’t really want to spoil anything about it! so instead of giving you a proper summary just let me say this - it’s undoubtedly the best ya book i’ve ever read. it’s incredibly engaging (i read the whole thing on a 3 hour car trip just after doing my exams, and it was a perfect distraction) the writing is beautiful too. that quote “there’s something dangerous about the boredom of teenage girls” is from it but there are countless others. the characters and some of the scenes are so tangible.
abbott, like gillian flynn, refuses to water down women. to all the sub-par teen heroines that you’ve read a thousand times, she says fuck you, these girls are real. they’re not you or characters that you can press yourself into the cracks of because their personalities are made one size fits all. you do recognize them, though, in bits, in the people around you. the women are unashamedly who they are, if you know what i mean. they don’t always make the right choices, they can be bitchy and awful and you can’t hate them for it, because you too can be bitchy and awful.
read dare me! fuck books about bad boys with redeeming qualities and their pale cartoon girlfriends. dare me takes a man’s wet dream and makes her into something real and terrible and beautiful.
When you are in a group of people and they start talking shit about Asians.. and they don’t know you are half Asian. -_-
